How to configure HP 6l printer to laptop beside XP?

I downloaded the drivers and I can see it as a printer but when I try to print, zilch happens. Of the 3 little lights that the printer have on its right side, only the upper one is on. Of course I enjoy checked the connection, enjoy reboot it, and nothing works!

- append printer

- local printer

- browse through manufacturers name, select HP

- browse models select your model, or select have disk

- browse to where on earth you installed the driver
